WESTLAKE BASKETBALL HEAD COACH

Head Coach Curtis Allen is embarking on his first year at Westlake High School. Coach Allen brings a wealth of experience from his impressive collegiate coaching career and playing days.

Allen was a standout player under Lorenzo Romar at the University of Washington. He holds the school record for free throw accuracy at 86.7% and ranks second in three-pointers made. He played in 117 career games, including 51 starts, and participated in the 2004 NCAA Tournament.

Allen's coaching journey began as an assistant coach at University Prep in Seattle before he joined Ken Bone's staff at Portland State. During his tenure at Portland State, Allen helped the team achieve remarkable success, including back-to-back Big Sky Conference Tournament championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2008 and 2009.

He followed Bone to Washington State, where he served as an assistant coach for nine seasons, first under Bone and then under Ernie Kent. At Washington State, Allen was part of a staff that led the Cougars to a 22-win season in 2010-11, reaching the NIT semifinals and the CBI championship round. He also coached future NBA All-Star Klay Thompson during this time.

Most recently, Allen spent six seasons as an assistant coach at Pepperdine University, where he played a key role in one of the nation’s top turnarounds, helping the Waves improve their win total by 10 games in the 2018-19 season. In 2021, he contributed to Pepperdine's postseason success as the team won the College Basketball Invitational.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join Westlake as head boys basketball coach. Coach Kegley and his staff have built a strong foundation and we look forward to building on it,” said Allen.

A native of Tacoma, Washington, Allen graduated from the University of Washington in 2005 with a degree in general studies. He now lives in the Conejo Valley with his wife, Alissa, and their three sons, Trey, Noah, and Jalen. In his free time, Coach Allen enjoys golf and quality time with his family.

Westlake High School is excited to welcome Coach Allen and looks forward to the positive impact he will have on the basketball program and the broader Westlake community.
